While there aren’t many details I can find, users of Pixetell from Portland startup Ontier were just alerted that Brainshark has acquired the product will take over support of their product [hat tip to Mike Rogoway]. It’s not clear by whom the product and/or company was acquired. No financial details were disclosed.
Customers of Pixetell received an email announcing the acquisition. The Pixetell site contains the same letter. The content of that letter can be found below.
We sincerely regret to inform you that due to a recent acquisition of Pixetell, our online service will be discontinued on May 31, 2011. However, available to you now is a new standalone version of Pixetell that enables you to continue using your existing content, export to industry standard video formats, plus an exiciting new direct YouTube uploader. This will be an unsupported product to enable you to continue using your content, so please refer to tutorials on YouTube and assist others in the Pixetell community.
Brainshark, Inc. will be offering qualified Pixetell subscribers a MyBrainshark subscription of similar or greater value, so please visit http://www.brainshark.com/pixetell for more information and watch for exciting new Pixetell-like features in the Brainshark platform.
The Pixetell service will remain online through May 31, 2011 to give you ample time to download any content you wish to keep. At the end of the business day on May 31, 2011 the service will be permanently discontinued so you will need to have completed all exports prior to this time. Please refer to the Pixetell Tutorial below that demonstrates how to export your content. We encourage you to begin the process as soon as possible.
We have truly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know so many of you over the last couple of years and wish you the very best.
You may remember Pixetell as a standout during their unveiling at DEMO 2009, where they received the DEMOgod award for one of the best presentations.
The service allowed users to insert a Webcast into an email.

Pixetell is the feature that all bug reporting software is missing. It came and went too soon.
Pixetell was a cool product built by the talented Sebastian Rapport and backed by big-name local investors. I wish them all well in this next chapter.
