Portland Streetcar gets on board with GlobeSherpa mobile ticketing

Portland’s GlobeSherpa will be adding another ticket to its portfolio, this summer. According to Joseph Rose over at The Oregonian, Portland Streetcar will be giving GlobeSherpa the chance to provide mobile tickets for passengers.

From the Portland Streetcar site:

We’re working on bringing mobile ticketing to Portland Streetcar. We hope to have this service available as early as this summer. In the meantime, watch this space over the next few weeks for your chance to help beta test the app!

GlobeSherpa is currently working on a beta implementation with TriMet to provide smartphone based mobile ticketing.

“The mobile ticketing app has been a game changer for me,” said Jackie Mathys, TriMet Tickets Beta Tester It is SO easy to buy tickets, quickly validate them and show them to the driver. There is literally no fumbling with the app, the design is so good. I’m happiest about no longer having to deal with an extra “thing” to ride the bus. My phone is with me all the time anyway, so it just makes sense that I can accomplish this transaction from my phone. I’m glad I got to be one of the first to use it. I can’t imagine going back to little paper tickets again.”

In other news, how many of you realized that Portland Streetcar was an entirely different organization from TriMet? No worries. They honor all TriMet fares, as well.
