Back in the thick of it: Portland startup mentor, advisor, and investor Scott Grout joins Cedexis as CEO

Sometimes, you can just tell that people are itching to get back in the game. Take Scott Grout. The former CEO of Radisys has become a fixture in the growing Portland startup scene. Mentoring for Portland Seed Fund and PIE. Investing in early stage startups with Oregon Angel Fund. Working on Oregon Entrepreneurs Network. And advising any number of folks. But still, you could tell he was looking for more to do.

Well now he’s found that more: Scott is the new CEO at Portland startup Cedexis.

What does Cedexis do?

Cedexis is the leading provider of web-scale, end user-experience monitoring and hybrid cloud optimization. The Cedexis community crowd-sources billions of real user-based measurements a day, from over 30,000 ISPs, providing unprecedented real-time visibility into how cloud performance is impacting the experience of web and mobile applications. Cedexis then leverages this insight into a data-driven global traffic management solution, which major brands depend on to deliver a seamless experience for their customers anywhere in the world. Cedexis’ solutions are trusted by over 500 global brands including Accor Hotels, Airbus, Cartier, Comcast, LinkedIn, Mozilla and Nissan.

“Cedexis has brought to market a powerful and flexible platform for optimizing the performance of web and mobile apps across a variety of cloud and mobile networks. The company is poised for rapid growth and has the very real potential to transform the way applications are delivered to every end user around the world,” Scott said. “I am thrilled to join the Cedexis team and be a part of scaling this business in a substantial way.”

As Mike Rogoway highlights, this marks an interesting mix of the old school and new school of the Portland tech scene:

Rarely does the state’s old guard, big tech companies along the Sunset Highway, interact with the new generation leading Oregon’s entrepreneurial renaissance. The division is partly technological (old-school hardware v. software), partly generational and partly geographic.

Former Radisys chief executive Scott Grout is leaping across that divide, joining downtown Portland cloud-computing startup Cedexis as its new CEO.
