Earlier this year, the Portland Eastside Esplanade became a menagerie of strange and wonderful light filled contraptions. It was a moment in time when all of those awesome artists were given a canvas to bring a little more brightness into our dreary winter lives. And guess what? It’s happening again next year. And you can be part of it. Through the Portland Winter Light Festival.
What’s the Portland Winter Light Festival, you ask?
Presented by the Willamette Light Brigade and powered by PGE renewable energy, the Portland Winter Light Festival, is a premier winter event hosted at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI). This outdoor celebration illuminates Portland’s waterfront through contemporary light-based art installations, engaging performance, and fun activities for all ages. Free and open to the public, this nighttime community-supported event generates critical opportunities for artists, designers, creatives, makers and performers to collectively expand art, performance and technology innovations in our region. No tickets are needed for this outdoor event – simply show up and enjoy the show!
Interested in participating? Well good. You can submit a concept to be one of the official exhibitions or you can propose a community installation in conjunction with the festival.
