Interested in improving your AI literacy? AI Portland has an event for that

While Portland was a little later to the whole AI thing than I expected, it seems to be racing to catch up — with momentum on the topic growing by leaps and bounds over the last few months. And no local organization seems to be more in tune with that than AI Portland, which has been working to bring the whole community together to figure out what’s what with AI. And their next event promises to be a must-attend one: AI Literacy for All.

Over the past year, ChatGPT and the technology that powers it, Generative AI, have been making waves in our workplaces. Generative AI is already having an impact inside companies and in our jobs. In this talk, we’ll make sense of generative AI in a jargon-free environment. Learn how generative AI works, what it does well, and what it doesn’t do well. We’ll show how it’s being used in the workplace and how to experiment with it. Embrace your curiosity and get answers to your questions about AI in a lively discussion, no programming or tech background needed.

But what if you’re not an AI expert…? That’s exactly the point. This is an event series for everyone — and for Portland. As AI Portland’s Megan Notarte and Nicole Mors explained to the Portland Business Journal:

“When we did our (goal) setting in January, one of the things we came away with is it’s important to us these events be in person and in Portland,” said Notarte. “AI is the thing people want to talk about. Let’s bring people back together in person in Portland and do our part to revitalize (the city).”

“AI Literacy for All: Understanding Generative AI in the Workplace” will be held the evening Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Kiln. Tickets are $20. Scholarships are available.
