That plant at the local garden store is calling your name. But is it potentially poison to the furry friend you already have at home…? That’s the idea behind Rami, an app that helps you learn more about plants inspired by their potential impacts on household pets.
Rami is named for Ramses — my rescue cat, and the reason this app exists. We took him and his sister from a house with 60 cats, sick and barely four months old; months of care got them playing like kittens again. Then one morning his mouth and paw were swollen, and I realized I had no idea if one of my plants was the cause. I couldn’t tell which were risky to him and which weren’t, and there was no simple way to learn about the plants — so I built one.
That’s why your guide is a cat. Ramses is healthy now — the Monstera lives eight feet away.
The app is currently available for iOS. It supports both English and Spanish.
