Do (Apparently, my brain has already started its Friday.) Did you miss the latest Portland Web Innovators gathering with Attensa?
Fear not, gentle reader. Thanks to Dawn Foster, who was kind enough to capture video of the event, you’ll soon be espousing on RSS and attention with the best of them.
It’s Friday. Kick back and catch up by watching “RSS and Attention.” (Kindly hosted by Jive Software which, coincidentally, kindly hosted the event, as well.)
Portland-based Jive Software continues on its award-winning roll. First, they walked away with a cash prize of $15 million from Sequoia. Then, they took home the OEN Entrepreneur Award. Now, they’ve walked away with top honors at Venture NW for “Outstanding Achievement.”
“As winners of the Outstanding Achievement Awards, Jive Software and nLIGHT represent the high caliber of companies and entrepreneurs in this region. These are two globally competitive companies that have proven that they are attractive to investors anywhere,” said Wayne Embree, managing partner of Reference Capital Management, LLC and Chairman of Venture Northwest 2007. “They remind us what is possible with the support from programs such as Oregon Entrepreneurs Network and Venture Northwest.”
Who else won? If the quotes are any indication, it sounds like Portland may be a winner, as well. If only in getting a little more of the entrepreneurial and venture-capitalistic attention and affection it so rightly deserves.
“Moving our company to Portland was one of the best business decisions we ever made. We quickly discovered that Portland has an immensely supportive entrepreneurial community and it has provided our company with a great environment in which to grow,” said Jive Software CEO, Dave Hersh. “Being chosen to receive this award is a great honor.”
I remain hopeful that this sort of Portland praise will begin to cut down on some of the location-related difficulties Silicon Forest startups are encountering as they pursue funding.
With its recent infusion of funding and rash of hiring, Portland-based Jive Software is outgrowing its current space at 317 SW Alder.
No word on whether they’ve selected new digs or not.
But their old space—exposed brick and all—will soon be up-for-grabs.

Well, I was browsing through the latest issue of JiveMindShare… Um. Oopie. I mean, pdxMindShare. And I think, maybe just maybe, Portland-based Jive Software might be hiring for a few positions.
I’m saying, “Maybe.” Don’t quote me on it. I may be reading something into this.
In any case, the laundry list of open jobs a good problem for Jive to have. And it could be that you’re just the type to help fill one of these roles. So I just thought it worth mentioning that Jive Software—proud recipient of a recent $15 million Sequoia investment and a winner of one of the 2007 Oregon Entrepreneur Network awards—is hiring for the following positions:
I thought there might be a little more than just mutual “We share Portland as a hometown” respect behind Attensa’s Office 2.0 presentation on how to use Attensa’s and Jive’s products in tandem.
Turns out Attensa just released a beta version of their support site. And it’s built on Jive Clearspace X.
Now, that’s the kind of Portland-based technology collaboration we like to see.
As part of the beta rollout, Attensa has also announced that it will begin phasing out its old support site, in order to “build a vibrant support community” using the features of Jive’s collaboration platform.

Word around the (Twitter) campfire is that Jive has walked away with the top honors at the Oregon Entrepreneur Network’s (OEN) 14th Annual Entrepreneurship awards. [Update] Jason Grigsby has published the complete OEN-award-winners list on User First Web. [Update 2] And the OEN has dropped a release, announcing the winners.
The statewide entrepreneurial community’s biggest gathering of the year will be the 2007 OEN Entrepreneurship Awards — the 14th annual celebration of the entrepreneurial spirit in action throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.
The Oregon Entrepreneurs Network (OEN) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the climate for emerging, growth-oriented companies across Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. OEN helps improve the flow of ideas, services, and capital to entrepreneurs and helps connect companies to expertise and other resources they need to grow their business. Together, the nearly 2,500 members strive to aid the growth and development of a healthy, diversified Oregon economy with a new generation of entrepreneurial leaders.
This is hot off the… well, it’s not even on the presses yet, so I’ll update this post with additional links as news becomes available.

Portland-based Jive Software officially announced the release of Clearspace 1.6, today.
The most-notable feature in the new release? Customizable spaces.
This allows space owners to decide what’s important in their space and customize the layout of the “Overview” section. We’ve found that a lot of our customers are using the main space page as their department’s front door and they wanted a lot of flexibility around the content and layout.
In related news, Jive appears to have pushed some Web site updates that both refresh the look and feel of the Jive site and give Clearspace a bit more prominence.
Clearspace 1.6 was introduced to the Portland blogging community on September 11. Scott Niesen, Director of Marketing at Portland-based Attensa, will be presenting at the Office 2.0 conference, this afternoon. He’ll be describing how to use Attensa’s product in combination with another Portland startup’s product, Jive Software’s Clearspace.

At the very least, I wanted to highlight this pairing of complementary technologies from the Silicon Forest.
Just a reminder that Jive Software will play host to the Portland Web Innovators [Update: The Portland Web Innovators’ Web site is currently suffering from a bit of “digg effect,” but all of the details you will need are on the Upcoming page] event, tonight, entitled “Digital Identity and OpenID.” Scott Kveton will be speaking. The event starts around 7 PM.
Digital identity promoter Scott Kveton will talk about his experience with OpenID and the future of digital identity on the web. He worked at JanRain (creators of MyOpenID) as CEO and helped it reach Business 2.0’s list of Startups to Watch. Now Scott consults and speaks on identity and open source.
