On June 18, 2020, after almost a month of daily protests over police killings and systemic racism in Portland, Gov. Kate Brown proclaimed June 19 as Juneteenth and announced that she would have the Legislature introduce a bill making it a state holiday in 2021.

Portland has seen its share of founder pitch events. Some practice runs. Some highly competitive. And some that seem to develop some momentum and then, for whatever reason, fade away. Founders Live Portland has been one of those fits-and-starts one over the years. But as I always say: it’s all about timing. Founders Live Portland is back.

It’s that time of year again. The time when startups from Multnomah County cross the might Columbia to join forces with startup from Clark County to pitch in the TiE Oregon Columbia River Pitch competition. But which startups made the cut…?

Intel to lay off up to 20% of Intel Foundry workers | TechCrunch

The semiconductor giant plans to lay off 15% to 20% of workers in its Intel Foundry division starting in July, according to an internal memo originally reported on by The Oregonian. Intel Foundry designs, manufactures, and packages semiconductors for external clients.

Well, I tried to lobby for an alphabetical roll out, but that didn’t work. So instead of a place starting with a “B,” the next Show Up for Small Business will be taking place in St. Johns. The premise…? Simple. The Portland Office of Small Business picks the spot. You show up and support the business.

Apply to Y Combinator | Y Combinator

Y Combinator is accepting applications for the Fall 2025 Batch funding cycle. The batch will take place from October to November in San Francisco. The deadline to apply on-time is August 4 at 8pm PT; if you apply before the deadline, you will get a decision by September 5. If you apply after the deadline, we will still consider the application but can’t promise exactly when we’ll get back to you.

For practically the entire time Silicon Florist has been around, Calagator has been around. (If you’re not familiar with Calagator, it’s a locally created open source project designed to provide an aggregated calendar for technology events happening in, on, and around Portland.) And when the “startup community” was largely synonymous with the “tech community,” the overlap made it a critical resource for startups in our region to find events and gatherings that helped them connect with other startuppy type folks.

According to Malia Spencer at the Portland Business Journal the planned acquisition of Portland startup Act-On — announced at the beginning of the year — has been called off.
