Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon continues his stand against Internet censorship. And you can join him.

Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon has a long history of standing up to legislation that affects the Internet. And we think that’s pretty cool. Especially since many of us have jobs and products and blogs because of his efforts.

Well—true to form—he’s standing up against another bill and he’d like to have you join him, by having your name read aloud on Capitol Hill as part of a filibuster.

The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) would ruin so much of what’s best about the Internet: They will give the government and corporations new powers to block Americans’ access to sites that are accused of copyright infringement, force sites like YouTube to go to new lengths to police users’ contributions, and put people in prison for streaming certain content online.

There’s a good chance this legislation will pass – but Senator Ron Wyden is a steadfast opponent, and he says he’ll try to block it by filibustering if it comes up for a vote.

Basically, this all encompassing legislation can be taken to ridiculous extremes. And still doesn’t really deal with the problem at hand. Not to mention that it takes away some of the things that make the Internet awesome.

Long story short, it’s not good. And so Wyden is opposing it.

  1. Excellent blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any ideas? Thanks a lot!|
