My Very First App: Night & Day Studios brings the art of Eric Carle to the iPhone

Got kids? Know kids? Were you a kid at some point? Then you’ve probably encountered the work of Eric Carle. The Very Hungry Caterpillar ringing any bells?

Now, Portland-based Night & Day Studios—yep, the same folks who brought you Peekaboo Barn—have brought the work of Eric Carle to the iPhone with My Very First App.

Ever since The Very Hungry Caterpillar ate his way through a week of food, Eric Carle has become known internationally for his distinctive hand-painted tissue collage style and innovative book design. He created some of the first truly interactive storybooks. Now Night & Day Studios has adapted Eric Carle’s vibrant and iconic illustrations for My Very First Books into a suite of interactive, educational games.

This app draws from the beloved My Very First Book series that includes My Very First Book of Colors; Sounds; and Shapes. We have adapted these books into interactive games. In the app there are 3 levels of game play: Easy (ages 1-3), Medium (ages 2-5) and Hard (ages 3-6). We have created the app with gently increasing stages of difficulty, so it will grow along with your child, and continue to challenge them throughout their early years.

Sounds pretty cool right? Well, you’re not the only one who thinks that. The app has been flirting with the Educational App spot in the App Store off and on.

My Very First App is available for $0.99 from the App Store for both iPhone and iPad. And additional levels are available through In App Purchase.

For more information, see My Very First App. For more on the company, visit Night & Day Studios.

  1. Night & Day studio’s talk at Mobile Portland was the best speech I’ve seen in 2 years. What an excellent story and battle they’ve been through to get here. It’s increasingly exciting to see all of the great mobile companies gain success in Portland!
