Former FlightStats folks launch new Portland startup focused on data visualization, Zat

Yes, yes. That company that provides all of the awesome data on where planes are at any given moment—FlightStats—is a Portland company. And while that’s interesting and all, what’s more interesting to me right now is that a couple folks from that company have carved off a new startup. Introducing Zat.

Founded by Wm Leler and Serena Regazzoni, Zat is taking on data visualizations—real-time, dynamic data at that—enabling folks to tell better data stories with imagery.

Zat builds advanced customized web and mobile applications for visualizing dynamic, real-time data for a variety of markets. The company is leveraging new technologies designed for the web such as HTML 5, WebGL, d3.js, location, maps and real-time data APIs and libraries to build next generation digital content.

For a geogeeky town like Portland that also happens to love mucking around with data and visualizations, this sounds like it could be very promising.

And yes, something tells me that Wm happened to have that URL just laying around.
