Design Rocks: Ziggy played guitar. You can play a role in bringing him back from Mars

It’s always nice to see people breaking down silos. And crossing over genres. And media. Portland needs more of that. That’s why I’m intrigued by a local Indiegogo project looking for raise funds for a “Rock ’n’ Roll Art & Design Gala from Mars” to be held during Design Week Portland.

Part of the challenge we gave ourselves with Design Rocks was to use art and technology to create a truly immersive experience. To that end, we’ve recruited an eclectic team of Portland’s finest interactive designers, programmers, lighting designers, and costumers to apply their talents to the creation of a rich, interactive, audio-visual experience.

The project is looking to raise $4173, but they’ll work with whatever they get. And yes, of course, there’s a Bowie cover band:

Dr. Spaceman, Portland’s Ziggy-era David Bowie tribute, features a cast of musicians bent on bringing Bowie’s early-seventies glam sound to the stage. Drawing on an eclectic mix of musical experience in Portland and elsewhere, Dr. Spaceman is ready to rocket you into a moonage daydream.
