Looking to meet more folks at events…? Maybe give Wyrl a — um — whirl?

You know the feeling. You spotted a good event. You actually paid for the ticket. Even more importantly, you actually went to the effort to follow through on your RSVP and show up. And then you walk in. The room is already full of people who all seem to know each other. So you find yourself drifting toward the beverage table to study the selections with great intensity. Why…? Meeting people is the whole point — and yet somehow it’s the hardest part. That’s the gap Wyrl is built to close.

In practice, that means you use Wyrl to find the folks worth meeting once you’re physically there. No cold-open small talk required. There’s even Popups feature for the more spontaneous gatherings, and separate tools depending on whether you’re attending or organizing. It’s currently live across ten US cities right now: Portland, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, LA, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle.

But as the userbase grows, it’s also doing some other heavy lifting. As Oren Tuchin, the creator of Wyrl, shared on the Portland Startups Slack:

While I work to get event organizers to use Wyrl to host their events, I’ve decided to be an aggregator in the meantime.  So if you’re constantly going to Meetup and Luma to find local tech events, you might enjoy that I have them all located on the app in one place.  Now you can see what’s happening here in Portland, including in a map view.

If you’ve ever wished events came with a little less standing-in-the-corner and a little more actually-meeting-someone, it’s worth a look. Grab Wyrl on the App Store or Google Play.

  1. I’m in! Let’s hope this reaches critical mass soon! Is this in Flutter, by any chance?
