Portland Lunch 2.0 has received a temporary stay of execution from Elemental Technologies.
I joke, but seriously, either interest has dried up or the idea of giving 100 or so people free grub doesn’t seem as good as it did last year. Surprise.
Anyway, thanks to Davy Stevenson (@davystevenson) and the rest of the crew at Elemental, we’ll be networking and chowing down for at least another month.
Elemental made headlines earlier this Summer with the release of Elemental Accelerator. What is Elemental Accelerator you ask?
Elemental Accelerator is a video processing solution for creative professionals who need to support an ever-increasing number of output video formats with flat or reduced resources. Elemental Accelerator leverages NVIDIA GPUs to dramatically speed the process of converting commonly distributed digital audio and video formats to H.264 baseline, main, or high profiles. This includes accelerated decoding, processing and encoding of video into high quality H.264 files ready for upload to the web or for burning to Blu-ray disc.
It’s a good thing Rick covered this already because I know nothing about video. This lunch will be a good opportunity to change that I suppose. If you’re interested to learn more about Elemental, check out Rick’s coverage of their first round of funding, or bounce over and read more about them.
Here’s a bit more from Julie Williams, Communication Manager at Elemental:
Who knew Portland is a hotbed for disruptive technology in video processing?
Right downtown, Elemental Technologies’ software masters the art of using massively parallel solutions to accelerate video conversion. If you’ve ever spent over four hours to encode a short video clip than you’ll know what a godsend this is!
Join us at Elemental’s headquarters to learn about challenging code, to see our soon-to-be released Beta product and to meet other videophiles.
Consider yourselves teased.
As usual, please RSVP on Upcoming. This tells the hosts how much grub to get, and if you’re vegetarian or vegan, make sure to drop a comment on the event page for planning, unless you don’t want to eat, which kind of defeats the purpose.
Here’s the skinny:
Hosts: Elemental Technologies
Where: 620 SW Fifth Avenue, Suite 400, Portland, Oregon, 97204
When: Wednesday, October 21, 2009 from 12 PM to 2 PM
Don’t forget these Lunch 2.0s, coming soon:

Big thanks to all the hosts who have hosted or plan to host Lunch 2.0.

Hi Tom. Sure, bring anyone who might be interested. Just please try to have people RSVP on Upcoming so Elemental can get a good idea of how much grub to order.
