Raise your glass to more acquisitions! Portland’s Unthirsty gets acquired

You may have heard that 2010 is the year of acquisitions in Portland. Turns out Portland-based Unthirsty – a side project for Jason Glaspey and Matt King – just sold for an undisclosed sum.

Well well well. You may have heard that 2010 is the year of acquisitions in Portland. No really. It is. Don’t believe me? Well, I’ve got another one for you. That’s right. Already.

Turns out Portland-based Unthirsty—a side project for Jason Glaspey and Matt King—just sold for an undisclosed sum.

What’s Unthirsty, you ask? Well, truth be told, it’s actually one of the cool side projects that motivated me to start writing Silicon Florist. (But don’t tell Glaspey, because he’ll get all big-headed about it.)

But aside from that little tidbit of trivia, how about I actually answer the question? Okay. I will.

Unthirsty is a happy hour finder.

Unthirsty is the work of a group of like-minded souls who were always struggling (for obvious reasons) to remember where and when they last enjoyed that good happy hour. A plan of action was drawn up on beer sodden napkins over bargain pints and some mighty fine nachos. Thus, Unthirsty was launched and dedicated to the good of all mankind’s legally drinking denizens.

But now, it’s all growed up. And ready to start a new life with a new owner.

“While the future of the site isn’t 100% decided, it will probably continue to grow on the foundation Matt and I started,” said Glaspey. “This was our first side project and, admittedly, it’s a little sad to see it go. But we’ve both been busy with other projects and we hated to see it just sit there. This move makes sure that it gets the love and attention it deserves.”

So take a moment to raise your glass to Unthirsty. The latest acquisition in what is sure to be a very busy year of buying and being bought around here.
