[HTML2]There’s no doubt that Portland loves its blogging. Blogs here, blogs there, blogs blogs everywhere. But when it comes to blogging about Portland itself? No blog does a better job than OurPDX, the network of Portland bloggers who cover all things Portland.
And now—with their 1000th post—OurPDX is celebrating its first birthday. Even better? This Friday, you get to celebrate with the entire… um. Group? Herd? Gaggle? Bloat? Band…? Well, whatever a collective of bloggers is called, you’ll get to celebrate with them at Beer and Blog, this week—or you can always listen in to their extended birthday celebration during Strange Love Live.
It’s hard to believe, that it’s been a year since Betsy “@betsywhim” Richter and Brett “@dieselboi” Burmeister sifted through the wreckage of Portland Metblogs and banded together a rag-tag crew of bloggers to keep covering the local scene.
Taking that crew and throwing a blog together took but a matter of days. Admittedly, a few days earlier than planned thanks to some help from Portland’s most prolific blogger, Jack Bogdanski.
Now, one thousand posts later, Betsy and Brett are managing a group of more than 20 bloggers who contribute insightful and witty stories about the Rose City.
Now, there are even rumblings of making a go at becoming a self-sustaining entity.
Nearly a quarter of a million visitors later, well — we’ve had to seriously learn more about site optimization. Extended our vaunted ‘cashflow-negative’ reputation by upgrading to a more powerful hosting environment (not to mention sponsoring events like this one or that one.) In the next year? We’re going to bite the bullet and figure out how to at least break even; do expect to see advertising on the site sometime soon.
One thing is for sure, I simply can’t imagine the Portland blogging scene without them around.
So take the chance to celebrate with the OurPDX crew at Beer and Blog. Can’t make it? No worries. The gang will be appearing on a very special episode of Strange Love Live on Friday night.
Happy Birthday, OurPDX! Here’s to year number two.
