While Portland has a bunch of awesome organizations designed to incubate and accelerate startup activity, we haven’t seen a consumer brand backed accelerator on the scene for nearly three years, since the Nike+ Accelerator powered by TechStars. Startups move quickly these days. Portland startup Glider was no exception. The formation, rapid ascent, and exit of Glider—a startup that worked to help streamline the tangled mess of contracts, signatures, and approvals—took only a couple of years to complete the cycle. And today, with an acquisition by Dallas-based FPX, Glider moves on to its next phase, where it will continue its work as part of a larger entity with access to more resources. Read More
There are a growing number of TechStars alums in town—Cloudability, Glider, Factor, the companies from the Nike+ Accelerator—but the first Portland company to really make the leap into a TechStars program was Vizify, who managed to juggle both TechStars and the Portland Seed Fund simultaneously. Arguably, Cloudability has been one of the most successful Portland startups to emerge in the last couple of years. And they’ve done so by successfully leveraging a number of opportunities that have come their way.
