If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times. When startups are hiring marketing folks, that’s usually a good sign. Not just contracting, but actually bringing those folks on board.
And it’s starting to happen. ShopIgniter recently brought on Kevin Tate to head up its marketing group. And now, Urban Airship has announced that Brent Hieggelke has joined as chief marketing officer.
Brent—who has been a fixture in the Portland tech community at a number of high profile marketing roles—comes most recently from a stint as cofounder of Second Porch, a Portland startup that was acquired by HomeAway, earlier this year.
This week we welcomed Brent Hieggelke, who is joining as Urban Airship’s first Chief Marketing Officer. As our entire business expands, so must also our marketing strategy to support our rapid growth, and we believe we have found the right person to nail that. I first met Brent a few years ago as he was leading his own start-up Second Porch, and he brings more energy and perspective to the management team but he also has that special metabolism required for life aboard the Airship.
Brent told Mike Rogoway at The Oregonian that UA opportunity presented a compelling challenge that he couldn’t pass up.
“It was an opportunity for me to help make something big out of this company here in Portland,” Brent said.
