The Portland Business Journal is reporting this morning on numbers from Pitchbook that show Portland metro area startups raised more than $1 billion in venture capital in 2021. The more impressive number from my perspective? That total was the result of investments in 138 deals.

Just came across another random tidbit about Autodesk acquiring Portland’s Innovyze for $1 billion. And no I’m not just looking for an excuse to say “wet infrastructure” again. Oh. Well crap. Anyway… It just happens to be the largest acquisition in Autodesk history. And that’s something, considering Autodesk has a significant history of acquiring.

Yes. $200 million. For a Portland startup. It’s really really easy to blanche at that number. I get it. It’s a big number. Especially for a homegrown Portland company in the software world. And were this earlier in the life of Silicon Florist, I could have easily focused on the number, cheered for a company raising that much, and moved along my merry little way.
