Like the return of spring, it’s always nice to see the return of activity to the Portland startup community. As we shake off the slow down of the holidays, quickly lose that new year smell, and get back to full speed ahead. And this year, it may just be me, but March and April seem pleasantly even more crowded than usual.
As much as I love our Portland companies, I’m even happier when they can expand their markets by exporting their goods and services to other communities. It doesn’t matter if they’re tech, creative, food & beverage… you name it. Being part of the “traded sector” helps Portland. So you can only imagine how happy I was when I heard PitchBlack was being shared with other communities as well. They’ll be in Seattle on Wednesday night as part of Techstars Startup Week Seattle.
For the past three years, I’ve organized Portland Startup Week at the beginning of each year. While it’s regularly attracted nearly a hundred events and hundreds of attendees, it still put folks in a bit of a crunch as they were recovering from the holidays. This year, we want to make the event even bigger and better, so we’re shifting some things up.
