If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times. The “P” in PDX stands for “procrastination.” And as I’m as guilty as any for that sort of behavior, I always like to give folks a few last minute nudges to get stuff done. Like applying to be part of the SXSW Pitch competition.

Portland startup Tali talks their way to a win at the Clio’s inaugural Launch//Code competition
As every startup knows, entering startups competitions can be a dubious concept. But when you manage to win, all that dubiousness tends to fade away. So one would figure that Portland startup Tali is feeling pretty good about entering the Clio Launch//Code competition. Which landed them the $100,000 prize from the legal billing software provider.
A panel of four judges chose Tali for its functionality and impact, innovation and user experience. The app allows lawyers to use voice commands to automatically keep track of billable time. Launched in 2017, Tali also works with Amazon Echo and other Alexa-enabled devices, as well as Cortana and Google Assistant.

Portland’s Mogol, Tali, and Tripgrid recognized by SXSW Accelerator program
For more than a decade, the annual gathering of tech folks at SXSW Interactive has been a concentrated audience looking for the next big thing. As such, any number of startups have used the event as a means of launching and promoting their products. Recognizing this, SXSW created the SXSW Accelerator program to help make that happen. And this year, three Portland startups have been selected to participate.
