As we continue to grapple with our modern day existence in a world that is always bigger better faster. One that regularly promotes hundreds of millions of dollars going toward venture startups and highlights millions of users joining the platform du jour. It’s sometimes easy to lose track of real and tangible incremental local impact. Which is why I wanted to take a moment to highlight the progress that WeWork Labs has made in our community over the past year.

Time flies: WeWork Labs celebrates its first anniversary
It seems like just yesterday that we were hearing about a new accelerator in town, WeWork Labs. Hard to believe that it’s already been a year. But even in that short amount of time the program has already impacted more than 60 founders. That alone is a reason to celebrate. And so they’re doing just that.

A few years back, I started Portland Startup Week. And as the starter, I became its de facto lead organizer. Despite the fact that I wasn’t terribly good at it. And I kept doing it because I wanted Portland Startup Week to be a thing. Over time, a number folks have pitched in to help pull it together making it an incredible celebration of the Portland startup community with nearly 100 events, from free coworking to panels to hackathons.

There’s nothing quite like peer support. That’s why I’m always a fan of events and programs that get peers together. Not even necessarily to talk shop. Just to let them know that they’re not alone. And if you’re the cofounder of a company, one of those events is happening tomorrow: Coffee with Co-Founders.
REMINDER: Coffee w/ Co-Founders at WeWork Labs Portland

Craving caffeine coupled with compatriots? It’s time for another Coffee with Co-Founders
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times. Communities are not built on evening events, alone. Which is why I always love daytime events that make knowledge, people, and networks more accessible to folks who might not have the chance to attend events after work hours. Like Coffee with Co-Founders.
The newest face of WeWork Labs Portland should be a familiar face to the Portland startup community
It wasn’t that long ago that global coworking giant WeWork announced that Portland — specifically the Custom House — would be a WeWork Labs instance. And like all startuppy things, changes are already afoot. In the past few months, WeWork Labs has been experimenting with its Portland presence and going through some iterations. And now, there’s a new person heading up the Portland efforts, Josh Carter.
REMINDER: PIE, Portland Business Journal, and XXcelerate Fund help celebrate the launch of WeWork Labs Portland, Thursday
Portland is nothing if not collaborative. So it would only make sense that a bunch of the Portland startup community would band together to help welcome the newest startup support organization in to town, WeWork Labs Portland. And what better way to show that support than to gather in celebration of the launch of the project.
Startup accelerator WeWork Labs launches Portland presence
Okay. There’s a lot more to dig into here… but just to get the news out. We’re going to have WeWork Labs in Portland. Great right? Even better? It’s going to be headed up by none other than startup ecosystem builder extraordinaire and the unofficial mayor of Portland Stephen Green.
