Another week, another Starve Ups alum acquired: Manage My Co-op exits

One of my favorite things about Portland’s original startup scalerator, Starve Ups, is their laser focus on helping founders successfully exit from their companies. Why? Well among other things, it’s the only way we’re going to generate enough wealth to create a truly self sustaining startup ecosystem. So following fast on the news of Starve Ups alum SpaceView’s acquisition, I’m happy to reveal that another Starve Ups alum—and RAIN Eugene alum—has exited, Manage My Co-op.

Growing local: Coast to Crest Fund established to provide seed funding for Lane County

While raising capital is never easy, it’s a lot more difficult when you don’t have any local resources on which to lean. That’s what a couple of Eugene entrepreneurs are hoping to fix with the Coast to Crest Fund, a new $3 million seed fund focused on Lane County startups.

Bend, Eugene, and Portland will be crawling with tech types, this week

Since its inaugural gathering at the Portland Digital eXperience (the first instantiation of what would later become TechfestNW), the Portland TechCrawl has continued to be the largest gathering of startup and tech folks in the city, every year. Thinking "Beyond the Valley"

When I first started this blog—way back in the dark ages of this current generation of Portland startups—it seemed that time and time again the prevailing wisdom was “move to the Valley.” And that left a bit of a mark on me. So I can’t help but be lifted every time someone provides a counter argument to that thinking, especially when it has an eye toward the future. Like this TechCrunch piece by Eugene’s Pat McCarthy. Eugene based Concentric Sky's creation gains noteriety through the International Year of Light

I always love when Oregon startups and tech companies take a more global stage. You know, like that Oregon built lion thing that Katy Perry rode in the Super Bowl. Well okay. Maybe not that. But this. This is cool. Check out how Eugene’s Concentric Sky is celebrating the International Year of Light. Read More

New resources for Eugene startups

In many ways, Eugene is way ahead of the Portland startup scene—especially when it comes to the tightly knit gaming community. In other ways, Portland has taken the lead with some concepts. Whatever the case, it’s always nice to have a comparable community to gauge progress and share ideas. That’s why I’m psyched to share these new resources for the Eugene community. Read More

And so it begins: "Eugene Tech" blog and calendar launches to cover the Eugene scene

It’s been awesome watching the Eugene tech scene continuing to gather steam. But I haven’t always done the best job of covering the awesomeness down there from up here in the Rose City. That’s why I’m happy to hear that Eugene is taking matters into its own hands. Introducing Eugene Tech, a blog and calendar cover the Eugene tech scene. Read More
