News has started bubbling about Twitter acquiring Scroll, a service that allowed users to pay a subscription to remove ads from popular content sites. Scroll also owns Nuzzel, a popular news service that shares stories that people in your Twitter timeline are sharing. Cool. But what does that have to do with Portland exactly?

While Auth0 is a Seattle company, they do have a distinct Portland tie. You see, the Portland Seed Fund was one of the company’s early investors. And today was a big day for everyone involved, given that it was just announced that Okta is acquiring Auth0 for $6.5 billion.

Just came across another random tidbit about Autodesk acquiring Portland’s Innovyze for $1 billion. And no I’m not just looking for an excuse to say “wet infrastructure” again. Oh. Well crap. Anyway… It just happens to be the largest acquisition in Autodesk history. And that’s something, considering Autodesk has a significant history of acquiring.

Seems to be a good week for acquisitions. Autodesk is picking up Portland’s Innovyze for $1 billion. And Portland startup The Wild has acquired a product to add to its repertoire and customer base, Prospect by IrisVR.

StreamYard isn’t the only acquisition announcement around these parts, this week. Earlier this week, it was announced that Khoros, a “global leader in digital-first customer engagement software and services” had acquired Beaverton-based Topbox.

I’ve used StreamYard and been on streams that used StreamYard. But I never realized that they were based in Tualatin. Until the news broke today that they had been acquired by Hopin, a rapidly growing virtual events platform.

There’s an argument that headquarters define the viability of a business community. And Portland has done okay in that regard. But I always felt that we could adjust the conversation. To promote the viability of a community by the regional offices it hosted. I mean, one of our largest employers is a regional office. So it what if we focused on that? Playing to our strengthens, as it were.
