It’s been an interesting 18 months for event management and virtual event platforms. To say the least. With so many new players and new concepts for how we can meet, it makes sense that we’d see some consolidation in the market. And that has had a positive impact on a local startup. Vancouver, Washington, startup Hubb has been acquired by Intrado Digital Media.

While they’ve been relatively quiet, Portland startup Conversa Health has clearly been building something attractive. They just got snapped up in a two company acquisition by publicly traded Amwell, totaling $320 million.

Former startup now publicly traded ZoomInfo across the river in Vancouver, Washington, has announced that they are acquiring Chorus.ai. The acquisition is designed to add features to ZoomInfo that help sales people be better sales people by surfacing insights and analytics that would be impossible to intuit without sitting in every single sales or customer service call.

There’s a generation of Portland startups that I refer to as the “quiet generation.” Not a lot of pomp and circumstance. Not a lot of public appearances. Just a bunch of amazing founders and companies who have quietly been building compelling businesses in our midst. One of those was Sensu, which had attracted capital from name brand VCs like Foundry Group and Battery Ventures. And now, they’ve also gotten those investors an exit.

StreamYard isn’t the only acquisition announcement around these parts, this week. Earlier this week, it was announced that Khoros, a “global leader in digital-first customer engagement software and services” had acquired Beaverton-based Topbox.

I’ve used StreamYard and been on streams that used StreamYard. But I never realized that they were based in Tualatin. Until the news broke today that they had been acquired by Hopin, a rapidly growing virtual events platform.

If you’ve been around the Portland startup community for any amount of time, you realize that many of the startups in our midst generally have a significant period of time between their founding date and when they experience a liquidity event like acquisition or private equity. (Or I guess there’s always on IPO. But seriously, who am I kidding?) Suffice it to say, “overnight success” is not a term that has much traction here.

There has been a recent spate of acquisitions here in Portland. Some Portland companies acquiring. Some Portland companies getting acquired. This is one of the latter. With recent Portland transplant Twistlock getting acquired for $410 million.
