Screenshots used to be a fairly convenient way of sharing visual information with support folks and the like. Droplr made taking, marking up, and sharing those screenshots faster and easier. But it wasn’t really until the advent of Slack—and the increased use of screenshots that came with it—for Droplr to truly come into their own. Now, the Bend startup is the third fastest growing app in the Slack app ecosystem.
You know I love startups. And you know I love startups that help startups. But what you may not know is that I’m a huge fan of folks who are doing that work in a variety of industries—not just tech. That’s why I wanted to be sure that all of you outdoor gear types knew that the application for the Bend Outdoor Worx accelerator is due on December 29, 2017.
It’s pretty common practice to have folks from the north and south visit Oregon. And in recent years, it’s even become common for capital to flow into the state from investors in those neighboring states. But it’s still rare to see Oregon investors expand to other regions. But that’s exactly what Seven Peaks Ventures is doing.
It’s the largest angel conference and the biggest prize purse of any startup pitch competition in the Pacific Northwest. So it’s little wonder that getting on stage to compete in the Bend Venture Conference can be a bit of a challenge. But you know what makes it even more difficult?
Every October, any number of investors descend upon Bend to take part in the largest cash prize startup competition in the Pacific Northwest, the Bend Venture Conference. It’s arguably the most valuable investor gathering in the state. But you know what? It’s only truly valuable if there are awesome startups there. That’s where you come in.
While Oregon still has a ways to go in terms of building a self sustaining startup ecosystem, any number of folks have been doing an impressive job of building up our early stage funding resources throughout the state. And one of those groups of early stage investors, Cascade Angels, is looking for some more companies in which to invest.
I know any number of us have expressed concerns about the increasingly deteriorating state of privacy and security online. And as it continues, we’re all looking for ways to protect ourselves. But it’s confusing. And difficult.
Since its inaugural gathering at the Portland Digital eXperience (the first instantiation of what would later become TechfestNW), the Portland TechCrawl has continued to be the largest gathering of startup and tech folks in the city, every year. This year—with the numbers of attendees currently well north of 1,000—promises to be no different. Read More
While my primary vantage point has me focused on the Portland startup scene, it’s always nice to check in on other awesome startup scenes in the state of Oregon. I was just in Eugene and Springfield to meet with a bunch of amazing startups at the RAIN accelerator and to hear even more awesome startups pitch during The Big Mix.
