It was August 2009. I had just wrapped up an episode of Strange Love Live celebrating the second birthday of this here blog. I think I was still even sitting on that now iconic couch when Dr. Normal piped up.
“You should do a podcast,” he said. Read More
Yesterday, we took a little time to reminisce and look back at 2009 in the Silicon Florist. It was an interesting year of highs and lows, startups and shutdowns, big happenings and small changes.
And while I’m very excited to get the chance to spend time with Cami Kaos and Dr. Normal on Strange Love Live tomorrow—as we work on putting a big fat bow on our 2009 wrap-up—I’m also looking forward to seeing what all of you are capable of doing in 2010.
But one thing escapes me. I have no idea what you think will happen next year. So let’s fix that, shall we? Read More

Hey, it’s Thursday. Kind of. A little bit still. And that means it’s time for another memePDX.
This week, Cami Kaos and I are a little preoccupied. But in a good way. I mean, in a charitable way. Won’t someone please think of the children? Oh sorry. Anyway, memePDX is a special episode, this week. And it will get you all prepared for 30 hour day. What’s 30 hour day you ask? It’s like memePDX, only like 100 times longer. And it’s also a 30 hour livestreaming telethon that starts this Friday afternoon. No sleep. All for charities like Free Geek, Oregon Food Bank, and Toys for Tots.
Are you ready for 30 hour day? Watch this. You will be. (Yoda voice:) You will be. Read More
For those of you around the Portland area and around the US, I hope you’re enjoying your Thanksgiving break. If you’re shopping today, good luck. Here’s hoping you’re doing that from in front of your computer.
As you might imagine, startup tech news in the Silicon Forest has been a little slow today. Likely from a good dose of tryptophan. But I wanted to give you something to tide you over until it picks up again.
Unfortunately, all I’ve got is Dr. Normal and Meagan Kate making fun of Cami Kaos and me by doing a parody of memePDX for Crazy Talk. So that’s what you’re getting. Read More
I know, I know. We’re running a little late. We seriously didn’t mean to stand you up for lunch. Sometimes these things just happen. We’re really sorry.

[HTML1]What could possibly make presenting a PowerPoint presentation even more painful? How about presenting off the cuff in front of a crowd without ever having seen the slides? With content that covers who knows what?
Oh my. It’s almost as bad as karaoke. Well, in fact, it is karaoke. Presentation Karaoke. And it’s happening tonight at 7 at the Someday Lounge in Portland. Read More
[HTML2]If you’re an out-of-town tech type who’s traipsing through Portland chances are—that at one time or another—you’re going to wind up on the set of Strange Love Live, the best tech podcast in Portland… if not the world.
So it comes as no surprise that when Matt Mullenweg, the founder of WordPress, was here in town for Beer and Blog (yes, the rumors were true) and WordCamp Portland that Cami Kaos and Dr. Normal managed to wrangle Matt away from WordCamp for a few minutes to chat about martinis, jazz, and, of course, WordPress. It’s another Thursday, and that means it’s time for another memePDX, the weekly wrap up of the hottest tech stories from Portland… and beyond.
Yet again, we got a little too chatty. So it’s running a little long. Like about 30 minutes. But in our defense there was a ton of news. And both Cami Kaos and I were tired and a tad punchy.
But trust me, there’s a bunch of good stuff. Like what? pdx.fm, Microsoft sponsoring WordCamp, Kanye, One Web Day, Simler, and a whole heck of a lot of Facebook news. Read More
Anyone who has spent any time around Silicon Florist realizes that I tend to be a little longwinded. And that’s putting it lightly. Brevity? Not my strong suit. And for many, reading through my lengthy posts isn’t the preferred way of getting their tech news.
So, I’ve been thinking about ways to get you more of the news you want with less effort on your part. And a different form of media seemed to be the best way to do it. So I begged started talking to the Strange Love Live folks and after a series of tantrums and crying fits on my part discussions, they finally agreed to help.
The result? memePDX. Read More
