Who won the Oregon Technology Awards, this year?

I have to admit that, after the last three years, I’m feeling pretty out of the loop on the broader technology scene here in Portland and Oregon. I’m much more closely tracking early-stage startups in software, hardware, and consumer products. Often before they’ve established much of a presence. So it’s always nice to have a reference point like the Oregon Technology Awards.

Potential podcaster? Professional podcaster? Now there’s a Portland podcast event designed for you… and every type of podcaster in between

Portland has always had a certain predilection for podcasts. We have had any number of folks experimenting with the format since the turn of the century. In fact, we have had some pretty successful and notable efforts come out of the community over the last two decades. Heck, we even had that Airstream that was retrofitted into a podcast studio and an event that brought a bevy of well-known podcasters to the stage.

Looking for a new take on virtual events? It might be Skittish

If I accomplished one thing during 2020, it was successfully test driving innumerable online meeting and collaboration platforms. I mean, what else was there to do, really? And throughout that time I kept thinking, “Trying to recreate the real world meeting or event dynamic online is only going to result in an uncomfortable and awkward Uncanny Valley situation.” The true winner of the new generation of virtual events, in my opinion, was going to have to come at the problem of gathering virtually in a new and creative way. And with that in mind, Skittish just might be on to something.

So it should come as little surprise to anyone that with something as undeniably important as the Black Lives Matter movement, Portland would have its own aggregated calendar of Black Lives Matter events.

Interested in another perspective on Portland? Consider subscribing to Bridgeliner

I often bemoan the fact that, dadgummit, kids just don’t blog like they used to. What with all of the social medias and stuff. That’s why it’s always nice to see another voice providing news and insights on Portland and our community. Like Bridgeliner, a local outpost of the WhereBy.Us network.

As we wend our way toward Thanksgiving, here are two women focused startup events for which to be thankful

I realize that it’s not going to come as a shock to anyone that Portland needs more diverse speakers and viewpoints and topics in its startup events.
